Course Settings
How to configure your course platform settings — site name, branding, video downloads, domain, email notifications, and the mobile app.
Course Settings
The course settings control how your entire course platform looks and behaves for your clients. Most of these overlap with the Client Portal settings (since courses live inside the portal), but there are a few course-specific options worth knowing about.
Site settings
This is where you configure the basics of your course platform. Watch this step (0:12)
Here you can:
- Platform name — set the name that appears at the top of your course portal (e.g., "Sarah's Wellness Academy")
- Allow video downloads — decide whether clients can download your course videos to watch offline. If your content is premium, you may want to keep this off to protect your material
- Branding — update your logo, colours, and visual identity across the entire course portal
Keep your branding consistent between your website and your course portal. If we built your website, we can match the portal branding to it — just ask on Slack.
Domain setup
Your course portal lives on a URL. By default, it's a system-generated address, but you can connect a custom domain (like courses.yourbusiness.com) for a more professional look. Watch this step (0:26)
If you'd like a custom domain for your course portal, let Korneel know on Slack. We'll set it up for you — it involves adding a few records to your domain settings, which we handle.
Email settings
Controls which automated emails your clients receive related to their courses. Watch this step (0:42)
You can manage email notifications for:
- Courses — sign-up confirmations, new content notifications, drip unlock alerts, assessment emails
- Certificates — notification when a course completion certificate is issued
- Communities — notifications for group activity (if you have communities enabled)
Each email can be toggled on or off, and you can customise the templates to match your brand voice. Learn more about course email notifications
App settings — the mobile experience
This is where it gets interesting. Your clients can "install" your course platform as an app on their phone — without downloading anything from the App Store. Watch this step (0:42)
This works through something called a Progressive Web App (don't worry about the technical name). Here's what it means in plain language: when your clients visit your course portal on their phone, they get a prompt to save it to their home screen. It then looks and feels like a real app — with your logo as the icon, your brand colours, and a full-screen experience.
What you can customise
- App name — what shows under the icon on their phone
- Short name — an abbreviated version for smaller displays
- Description — a brief line about what the app is
- App icon — your logo in two sizes (512x512 and 192x192 pixels, in .jpg or .png format)
- Colours — choose from pre-set colour themes that match your brand
How clients install it
Your clients don't need to do anything complicated:
Open your course portal in Safari → tap the Share button → tap "Add to Home Screen" → tap "Add". Your course portal now appears as an app icon on their home screen.
Open your course portal in Chrome → tap the three dots menu → tap "Add to Home screen" → tap "Add". Or they may see an automatic prompt at the bottom of the screen.
Open your course portal in Chrome → look for the install icon in the address bar (looks like a monitor with a download arrow) → click "Install". It opens as a standalone window on their desktop.
Push notifications work on Android but have limited support on iPhones. Your clients will still get email notifications for new content regardless of which device they use.
The real mobile app
There's also an option for a full native app that clients can find on Google Play and the App Store. Watch this step (1:05)
This is a more advanced option. If you're interested in having your courses available as a downloadable app in the App Store, message Korneel on Slack and we can discuss whether it's the right fit for your business.
