Logging Into Sanity
How to access your Sanity Studio, log in for the first time, and find your way around the content management dashboard.
Logging Into Sanity
Sanity Studio is where you manage all the content on your website — text, images, blog posts, pages, navigation, and more. Getting logged in is simple, and once you're in, you'll find the interface clean and intuitive.
Let's walk through it step by step.
Finding Your Sanity Studio URL
Your Sanity Studio lives at a specific web address. During your project, we set this up for you. It's usually one of these:
- yourdomain.com/studio — the most common setup
- A custom URL we provided — check your Slack channel for the link
If you're not sure what your Studio URL is, check the pinned messages in your Slack channel. We typically pin it there during launch. If you can't find it, just ask Korneel on Slack and he'll send it over.
Bookmark your Sanity Studio URL in your browser. You'll be visiting it regularly, and having it one click away makes life easier.
Logging In
Once you've navigated to your Studio URL, you'll see a login screen. Here's how to get in.
Go to your Studio URL
Open your browser and navigate to your Sanity Studio URL (e.g., yourdomain.com/studio). You'll see the Sanity login screen.
Choose your login method
You'll have one or both of these options depending on how we set things up:
- Google login — Click "Sign in with Google" and use the Google account associated with the email you gave us during onboarding. This is the easiest option if you have a Google account.
- Email and password — Enter the email address you provided during onboarding and the password you set up. If you never set a password, use the "Forgot password" link to create one.
You're in
After logging in, you'll land on your Sanity Studio dashboard. This is your home base for all content editing.
Can't log in? Here are the most common reasons:
- Wrong email address. Make sure you're using the same email you gave us during onboarding. If you're using Google login, make sure you're signed into the right Google account.
- Password forgotten. Use the "Forgot password" link on the login page to reset it.
- Account not set up yet. If you just launched and haven't received login instructions, message Korneel on Slack and we'll get you access right away.
Finding Your Way Around the Dashboard
Once you're logged in, here's what you'll see. The interface has a few key areas that are worth understanding.

The Document List (Left Sidebar)
On the left side of the screen, you'll see a list of content types. Depending on your website, this might include:
- Pages — Your main website pages (Home, About, Services, Contact, etc.)
- Blog Posts or Articles — Your blog content
- Navigation or Settings — Menu structure and site-wide settings
- Authors — Author profiles for blog posts
- Categories or Tags — Organization for your blog content
- Testimonials — Client reviews and quotes
- FAQs — Frequently asked questions
Click on any content type to see a list of existing documents. Click on a specific document to open it in the editor.
Your sidebar might look slightly different from this list. Every website is custom-built, so the content types are tailored to your specific needs. If you see something unfamiliar, hover over it or click it — you won't break anything by exploring.
The Editor (Main Area)
When you click on a document, the editor opens in the main area of the screen. This is where you actually make changes.
The editor shows your content organized into clear fields. For example, a page might have fields for:
- Title — The page heading
- Slug — The URL path (e.g., /about-us)
- Hero section — The big banner area at the top
- Content blocks — The main sections of the page
- SEO fields — Meta title and description for search engines
Each field is labeled, so you always know what you're editing. Some fields are simple text inputs, others might be rich text editors, image uploaders, or dropdown menus.
The Toolbar
At the top of the editor, you'll find a few important buttons:
- Publish — Makes your changes live on the website
- Discard changes — Throws away your current draft and reverts to the published version
- Preview — Opens a preview of how the page will look (if enabled for your site)
There might also be a version history icon that lets you see previous versions of the document.
The Media Library
Sanity includes a media library where all your uploaded images and files live. You can access it when uploading images to any document, and you can also browse it directly to manage your files.
This is where you'll find every image that's been uploaded to your website. It's searchable and sortable, making it easy to find and reuse images across different pages.
A Quick Tour of Common Tasks
Here's a cheat sheet of where to go for the most common things you'll want to do:
| What you want to do | Where to go in Sanity |
|---|---|
| Edit text on a page | Pages → click the page → edit the field |
| Change an image | Pages → click the page → click the image field |
| Add a new blog post | Blog Posts → click the "+" button |
| Update the navigation menu | Settings or Navigation → edit menu items |
| Change your site's meta title | Settings → SEO fields |
| Upload a new image | Any image field → Upload, or Media Library |
Tips for a Smooth Experience
Use a modern browser. Sanity Studio works best in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari. If something looks off, try switching browsers.
Work on a laptop or desktop. While Sanity does work on mobile devices, the editing experience is much better on a bigger screen. Save mobile for quick checks and small text edits.
Don't worry about breaking things. Sanity has built-in safeguards. Your changes are saved as drafts until you publish them, and version history means we can always undo something if needed. Explore freely.
Log out when you're done on shared computers. If you're editing from a public or shared computer, make sure to log out when you're finished. Click your avatar in the bottom-left corner and select "Sign out."
Sanity auto-saves your work as you type. If you close your browser or lose your internet connection, your draft changes will be waiting for you when you come back. No need to obsessively save.
Troubleshooting Login Issues
If you're running into problems, here are the most common fixes.
"I see a blank screen after logging in." Try a hard refresh: Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+R (Mac). If that doesn't work, clear your browser cache or try an incognito/private window.
"It says I don't have access." This usually means your account hasn't been added to the project yet, or you're logged in with a different email. Check which account you're using and message us on Slack if you're stuck.
"The page won't load at all." Make sure you have the right URL. If the Studio is at yourdomain.com/studio and you're getting a 404, the site might be updating. Wait a minute and try again. If it persists, let us know on Slack.
"I forgot my password." Use the "Forgot password" link on the Sanity login page. You'll receive a reset email within a few minutes. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive.
Whenever you run into an issue that isn't covered here, message Korneel on Slack. Login problems are usually quick fixes and we can typically sort them out within a few minutes.
